It probably seems like it might be easier to learn a song you are already familiar with. It might be true, too. However, performing a song that everyone knows is 10 times harder! I recently added “Moon River,” “Have I Told You Lately,” and “All of Me” to my repertoire.
I learned them all in a week. So, maybe they are easier to learn, but I was so nervous performing them. They were all new, but in addition, everyone knows the tunes and it is harder to cover up a mishap.
It all went well. I even got a request for Moon River when a gentleman asked what songs I play. I’m happy that I have learned them, as they add depth and versatility to my set list.
I just invested in some new well-known pieces from the Atlanta Harp Center. Next popular songs on my to-do list? “Hallelujah,” “Stairway to Heaven,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and “What a Wonderful World.” What would you want to hear on a harp?
